In real estate, the terms Agent, Broker and Realtor® are often used interchangeably – BUT have very different meanings. In Colorado a person must be licensed in order to sell Real Estate when working with the public. Standards set by the State cover the minimal education, examinations and experience needed to become licensed. After receiving a real estate license, better Licensees, also known as Brokers join their Local and National “Association of Realtors”, the world’s largest professional trade association.
The Real Estate licensees/brokers can only be called a Realtor® only after joining the Association and, most importantly subscribing to a strict “Code of Ethics” (which goes well beyond state law). It is through the Realtor Association that the licensee/broker agrees to collectively share the information on all houses listed for sale. This is done through the Multiple Listing Service or “MLS”.
The term real estate “Agent” should on be used if the licensee/broker is representing you and your interests, above their own, in order to help you buy or sell real estate. You’ve come to the right place, because Diane is both a Realtor and works with buyers as their AGENT!
